Traffic and passenger counts

To make informed transport planning and design decisions, accurate and comprehensive data is essential. This includes geological, geodetic, and information on the number of vehicles and passengers using the infrastructure. This data influences design elements such as road surfaces and lane widths, impacting construction and operational costs. Incorrectly determining or forecasting traffic flow can lead to issues like traffic congestion, rapid road deterioration, or overbuilt infrastructure. Therefore, it is crucial to base decisions on accurate data.

In transport planning and design, average annual average daily traffic (AADT) is typically considered. Forecasting traffic growth, changes in flow composition, and accounting for induced demand requires the development of transport models. However, for repairing or reconstructing road sections, it is necessary to gather current data on traffic volume and flow composition. Traditional survey methods using manual questionnaires and coefficients can introduce errors and inaccuracies, leading to negative consequences and overspending.

At About Mobility, we utilize computer vision-based video analytics and mobile data collection points to establish AADT on highways with greater accuracy and control. We also leverage data from various sources like TomTom, Google, and the national WIM network to update dynamic coefficients and maintain up-to-date AADT data throughout Ukraine.

If the focus is on passengers rather than vehicles, we offer corresponding quantity analysis. This is beneficial for calibrating transport models, optimizing route networks, and developing rolling stock release schedules. We can analyze e-ticket system data, combine it with other sources, and create meaningful infographics. In cases where electronic ticket data is incomplete or unavailable, conducting on-board surveys and frequency-occupancy studies of public transport can provide valuable insights. These methods involve using counter devices or smartphone-based apps to record passenger numbers and track GPS information.

By employing these data collection and analysis techniques, we can provide valuable information for calibration, optimization, and establishing coefficients related to public transport usage.
